STOP-WAIT-GO

STOP - WAIT - GO,This seems to be approach of our hero’s in signing up new films. Gone were the days when there used to a minimum of 3-4 releases for a hero in a year. Gone were the days when even two films of the same hero used to release on the same day. Superstar krishna used to work for three call sheets per day, Balakrishna's 'Nippuravva' and 'Bangaru Bullodu' were released on the same day are two worthful points to mention here.
If this delay between movies ensures movies of higher quality then its a good omen for tollywood, whereas if the quality of the final product doesnt improve irrespective of the time taken, then its a loss to tollywood in terms of idle time for its high profile resources, i.e., hero’s and thousands of people depending directly or indirectly involved in production.

This 'STOP-WAIT-GO' isn’t a new phenomenon in tollywood. Earlier we used to hear about a Rajnikanth who had a gap of 3 years before BABA, and a Pawan Kalyan who had a gap of 3 years between Khushi and Johnny. But it is the first time that it has become a mass phenomenon with lot of heros following this approach. Mahesh babu's Athidi has released 10 months ago but none of his projects have started shooting phase. Parugu, Kantri, Bujjigaadu have all crossed 75 days run but apart from formal announcements NTR, Allu Arjun and Prabhas havent donned make-up.
There are some odd reasons like the hero trying to step into the shoes of the new role, Director going perfection and bringing technicians from foreign countries as our rich producers were unable to find local talent to serve their needs(?) apart from these we have some more reasons.
Some of the reasons for this gaps is because
1) Good Script - Earlier movies were rolled out whenever the right combination has been formed irrespective of good script. But since lot of those movies have bombed, there is a caution in announcing films immediately after the combination works out. It is only after the script is well worked upon that the movies are going on floor. This also shows the lack of good scriptwriters in the industry. This fact is also illustrated by the way the heros latch upon hit scripts of other languages.
2) Change of Look - Though not entirely true in terms of our heros there are still some films which require them to change their look. This takes a bit of time causing the delay.
3) Publicity for earlier film - There is a saying that a hero is as successful as his last film. Also it is imperative for the hero to take responsility in ensuring a smooth run for his earlier film. So, all the press conferences, t.v interviews and various functions and success run tours leave no time for the hero to start working on the next film immediately.
4) Recharge - The film would take so much of the energy that the person will take some time to recharge. It can be used for either basking in the glory after a hit or sulking and getting the motivation back after a flop.
But since the number of marketable heros are probably the highest in Telugu (There would be atleast twenty five heros who could act in a solo hero film which is very high compared to other languages) there wont be any dearth in the number of films being rolled out. But fans of the individual heros will have a tough time waiting to see their idols on screen. Funnily, even fans of heroines have to wait long to see their goddesses on screen, but it is more because the heroines would be away doing movies in other languages rather than taking a break.
