Gunturodu – Review

Kanna (Manoj) is a carefree youngster in Guntur who lives with his doting father (Rajendra Prasad) and funny set of friends. Seshu (Sampath) is a criminal lawyer in the same city. Both Kanna and Seshu have their set of eccentricities. While Kanna gets infuriated and involves in street fights, Seshu has serious anger management issues. How their paths cross and what will it lead to forms the rest of the story.

How is this movie different?

  • Despite his body language, Manoj  has not attempted an out and out mass action film so far
  • Voice over by Chiranjeevi

Brief Credits

Starcast – Manoj, Pragya Jaiswal, Sampath, Rajendra Prasad, Kota Srinivas Rao, Rao Ramesh, , Praveen
Music: DJ Vasant
Producer: Sri Varun Atluri
Director: SK Satya

How did the Actors Perform?

Manoj excelled in the role which suits his body language. He has a very good introduction scene and completely owns the action sequences. There are some quirky dialogues with traditional telugu words that went well with the audience. Pragya Jaiswal is strictly adequate as the hero’s love interest. Her dubbing is mediocre.

Sampath plays the key role as a villian with eccentric tendencies. As with lot of telugu films, his characterization which evoked lot of freshness tapered out in the end. Kota played the mentor role to perfection. Rajendra Prasad got a meaty role in this film. Prudhvi, Praveen did their bit.

Megastar Chiranjeevi aced the Voice-over which helped elevate the introduction scenes to the audience.

How did the Technicians fare?

The film is crisply packaged by the director. Main strength of the movie are the high octane fights and the immediate scenes which lead up to the fights. Both action design and sound effects stand out. Creating eccentric characterization to both hero and villian and conflict points were also shot well. The director though had scope for improvement in executing some key emotional scenes to perfection.

Despite a strong and honest starting point, the love track meanders along weakly. Songs are passable and serve as a deterrent in the otherwise engaging screenplay. Background music is good and even in songs the music instruments stand out well compared to the tunes. Some dialogues like ‘clutches of bramhacharyam’ to heroines friend, ‘needi criminal brain aithe naadhi creative brain’ to villian, ‘edabaatu’ to the pet stand out. Production values are excellent.

Super Telugu Take –

By default a lot of film websites write that an action mass film is for B and C class centers. But any individual can enjoy both a class film and mass film equally. It all depends on which hat he wears to the cinema theater and how well the film is made. Manoj has done this film with due if not utmost diligence. People who watch most Telugu films can go and watch this film without fear. People who rarely go to movies and wish to see only films which can’t be missed can avoid this.

Super Telugu Rating – 3/5
