VOZ – Review

Abhi (Ram) and Vasu (Sri Vishnu) are childhood friends. Abhi, a rich guy with a passion for music accidentally meets Maha (Anupama Parameswaran). They both get to know each other well. What happens next, what trails and tribulations the friendship of Abhi-Vasu goes through forms the rest of the story.

How is this movie different?

How did the Actors Perform?

Ram did well, both in script selection and acting. He rocked during the emotional scenes. He has chosen to give a gap between beard and sideburns for reasons best known to him.

A personal favourite – Sri Vishnu looks a bit jaded in this film. He makes up for it with his earnestness. A very promising artiste in the making, he should take care of his looks.

Anupama carried the Aura around her with ample number of closeup shots thrown in. She should be appreciated for dubbing on her own. But the Mallu accent does crop up while pronouncing some of the words.

Lavanya Tripathi was ok. The new artiste who played her assistant is an utter miscast, especially since she got to mouth more dialogues than Lavanya. Nothing special to write about Priyadarshi, Kiriti etc who played friends roles.

Movie Analysis

Instant gratification is the theme of Telugu movies these days. If you look at recent movies that did decent – like Raja the Great, Jai Lava Kusa etc, the scenes are shown out at a very fast pace. This is unlike other language films (barring Commercial Tamil) where there would be more scope and time for audience to soak into the scenes, think and ponder. So, compared to the T20 viewing habits of the audience, VOZ takes the Test match route, making it challenging to sail through commercially.

The film needed more energy and humour. While Ram is good at one liners, and Sri Vishnu’s role required him to be sedate, they could have chosen better artistes and more comic sequences while incorporating the other 3 friend roles. The initial scenes are vital to build tempo, DSP gave amazing background music to elevate, but the kids who played childhood versions weren’t chosen well.

Devi Sri Prasad should be commended for the music. Both ‘Trend Marina’ and ‘Rayyi Rayyi’ were good as songs and as background music. Cinematography is one of the best in recent times. They also employed a lot of close up shots on all the lead artistes. Kishore Tirumala had a good script and unique premise(double proposal etc), but he could have worked out at creating some more interesting sequences in the narration.
